TROPICAL MEDICINE EXPEDITIONS TO KENYA AND UGANDA (Since
1995)
Round-Trip Training Courses on Clinical Tropical Medicine and Travelers’ Health for Healthcare Professionals.
In collaboration with Kay Schaefer (MD, PhD, MSc, DTM&H), Cologne, Germany, the Flying Doctors (AMREF) in Nairobi, Kenya and the University of Mbarara in Uganda.
Two weeks round-trip to various teaching-hospitals, out-patient clinics and research projects in Kenya and Uganda supervised by consultants on tropical medicine and travelers’ health from Germany and East-Africa
Individual on-site bedside teaching, laboratory manuals (hands-on microscopy on parasites in the blood, stool , urine and skin) and state of the art lectures in English
Field excursions to deserts (visceral leishmaniasis), rain forests (malaria, lymphatic filariasis, onchocerciasis, medical botany), fresh-water lakes (schistosomiasis) and national parks (antelopes: reservoir of African trypanosomiasis)
Visits to the ‘Flying Doctors’ (AMREF) in Nairobi and the Joint Clinical Research Center (JCRC) in Kampala, where the newest HIV vaccine trials are carried out
Accreditation
A CME certificate (60 contact hours on applied clinical tropical medicine and travelers’ health) is given by medical authorities from Germany at the end of the course.
