Travel preparation

Immigration:

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months. Keep copies of the relevant pages of your passport separately. A tourist visa (single entry, 1 month duration) is obtained for US$ 50,- (2011) at Entebbe International Airport, Uganda.

Health:

You should be in good health and reasonably fit. It is recommended to be vaccinated against polio, diphtheria, tetanus, typhoid, hepatitis A, yellow fever and to take malaria prophylaxis (recommended: Malarone or Doxycycline). Check www.cdc.gov/travel/eafrica.htm. Carry essential medicine with you, and if you like, bring antibiotics, syringes, gloves etc., which are always in need in hospitals! If asked at the customs on arrival, explain that the medicines are for “private use”.

Luggage: Maximum luggage weight is 15 kg per person.

You don't need a mosquito net, white coat or stethoscope. Luggage should be packed in a soft, lockable travel bag (not bulky suitcase).

Laundry:

Service is provided in all hotels.

Money:

It is recommended to carry approximately US$ 400,- cash (bills dated after 2006) for meals, drinks, tips and personal expenses. You can withdraw Uganda Shillings cash with your VISA-credit card (don’t forget your pin number!) from ATM machines in Uganda. Other credit cards are less popular.

Insurance:

You should have your own comprehensive travel insurance (health, accident, baggage, cancellation etc.) www.worldnomads.com.

Internet, cell phone:

You can send or receive E-Mails from business centres located in some of the hotels. Blackberries and mobile phones work here as well.

Airport transfer:

A free taxi airport transfer (40 km) is provided from Entebbe International Airport to Cassia Lodge www.cassialodge.com near Kampala. Your taxi driver from Cassia Lodge waits for you in the arrival area of the airport building holding a blackboard with your name. The transfer takes about 60-90 minutes, depending on the traffic. Please inform Kay Schaefer 1 month prio to the start of the course about your date and time of arrival at Entebbe International Airport (EBB).
